PCEA Chogoria Hospital Wins Community Health and Social Champion at Kenya ESG Awards 2026

PCEA Chogoria Hospital has once again demonstrated its profound impact on Kenyan society by being honored as the Community Health and Social Champion at the prestigious 2026 Kenctad Kenya ESG Awards. This recognition, bestowed by the Kenya ESG Awards organized by KENCTAD, celebrates organizations that excel in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles—particularly those driving meaningful social progress, community empowerment, and sustainable well-being.

We are deeply humbled and profoundly honored to receive this award. It stands as a powerful affirmation of our longstanding mission: to deliver quality healthcare with compassionate service, while actively investing in the empowerment and training of the next generation of healthcare professionals. Rooted in the values of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), our work has always been guided by faith, love, and a calling to serve humanity selflessly.

A Testament to Our Dedication

This accolade highlights several core pillars of our institution:

  • Transforming Lives Through Accessible, High-Quality Healthcare For decades, PCEA Chogoria Hospital has been a beacon of hope in Tharaka-Nithi County and beyond, offering comprehensive medical services—from emergency care and specialized treatments to preventive health programs—that reach underserved rural and peri-urban communities. Our patient-centered approach ensures dignity, empathy, and excellence in every interaction.
  • Compassionate Service Grounded in Christian Love Every member of our team—doctors, nurses, support staff, and volunteers—embodies the principle of caring with love. This award recognizes not just clinical outcomes, but the human touch: comforting the anxious, supporting families through crises, and treating each person as created in God’s image.
  • Empowering Future Healthcare Leaders A significant aspect celebrated in this recognition is our commitment to education and capacity building. Through the Clive Irvine College of Health Sciences, our Family Medicine residency programs, internship opportunities, COSECSA surgical training, and other specialized healthcare education initiatives, we are nurturing skilled, ethical professionals who will extend our mission far into the future. By investing in human capital, we ensure sustainable improvements in Kenya’s healthcare landscape.

To God be the glory! This honor is not ours alone—it belongs to every life we have touched, every challenge we have overcome together, and every prayer that has sustained us.

Gratitude to Our Extended Family

We extend our heartfelt thanks to:

  • Our incredible team of dedicated tutors, resident doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and all employees whose daily sacrifices make excellence possible.
  • Our students and trainees, whose passion and hard work inspire us to keep raising the bar.
  • Our partners—collaborators in government, NGOs, faith organizations, and the private sector—who amplify our reach and resources.
  • The resilient Chogoria community and the broader communities we serve, whose trust, support, and votes helped make this recognition a reality.

Looking Ahead: Continuous Excellence and Future Advancements

This award is both a milestone and a catalyst. It reaffirms our dedication while propelling us toward even greater heights. As we move forward, PCEA Chogoria Hospital remains committed to continuous excellence through:

  • Expanding access to advanced diagnostics, specialized care, and community outreach programs.
  • Strengthening our training institutions to produce more competent, compassionate health workers equipped for Kenya’s evolving needs.
  • Integrating sustainable practices—environmental stewardship in hospital operations, social responsibility in community engagement, and strong governance in all decision-making.
  • Innovating in response to emerging health challenges, from chronic diseases to climate-related health risks, ensuring resilience and relevance.

We are not resting on this achievement; instead, we see it as divine encouragement to deepen our service, broaden our impact, and inspire others in the journey toward a healthier, more equitable Kenya.

Let us continue working hand in hand—united in purpose, driven by love, and anchored in faith—to build a nation where every individual can thrive in body, mind, and spirit.

To God be the glory, great things He has done—and greater things He will yet do through us.

Restoring Vision and Hope: Announcing Our Free Eye Screening and Free Cataract Surgery Program in Partnership with AGC Tenwek Hospital

In a world where clear vision is often taken for granted, cataracts silently rob millions of people—especially in underserved communities—of their independence, mobility, and joy. Today, we’re thrilled to shine a light on a powerful solution right here in our backyard. We are proud to announce the launch of our Eye Screening and Free Cataract Surgery Program, a transformative initiative in partnership with AGC Tenwek Hospital.

This isn’t just another medical campaign. It’s a beacon of hope, a bridge across barriers, and a tangible expression of care that promises to restore sight to hundreds of patients who might otherwise face a lifetime of darkness.

Cataracts—the clouding of the eye’s natural lens—remain one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide. In Kenya and across sub-Saharan Africa, the condition disproportionately affects older adults, farmers, parents, and grandparents who depend on sharp vision for daily survival. Imagine not being able to recognize your grandchildren’s faces, harvest your crops, or read a simple prayer. For many in our rural communities, cataracts don’t just blur sight; they blur futures.

The good news? Cataract surgery is one of modern medicine’s greatest success stories—quick, safe, and life-changing. Yet access remains a challenge due to cost, distance, and awareness. That’s exactly why this program exists. By removing financial and logistical hurdles, we’re ensuring that no one in our community is left behind simply because they cannot afford care.

Program Details: What, When, and Where

We’ve designed every aspect of this initiative with accessibility and compassion at its core. Here’s everything you need to know:

📍 Free Eye Screening

  • Location: Our Eye Clinic at PCEA Chogoria Hospital
  • Timeline: Ongoing now through 13th March 2026
  • What to expect: Comprehensive vision checks by qualified ophthalmologists. No appointment necessary—just walk in during clinic hours.

🩺 Free Cataract Surgeries

  • Location: PCEA Chogoria Hospital Theatre
  • Dates: 16th to 20th March 2026
  • Eligible patients: Those identified during screening with operable cataracts will be scheduled promptly.

Bonus Gift Every participant at the Eye Unit will receive free reading glasses where appropriate—another practical way we’re enhancing everyday vision for our community.

This five-day surgical window is carefully planned to maximize impact while minimizing disruption to patients’ lives. Post-operative care and follow-up will also be provided to ensure lasting results.

None of this would be possible without our esteemed partners at AGC Tenwek Hospital. Their expertise, surgical teams, and unwavering commitment to excellence have elevated this program from a dream to a reality. Together, we’re combining resources, knowledge, and heart to deliver world-class eye care right at your doorstep.

This collaboration exemplifies what happens when institutions unite under a shared mission: Caring With Love. It’s proof that when healthcare providers, communities, and partners align, miracles become routine.

Let’s Make Sight Possible Together

This program has the potential to touch hundreds of lives—but only if the word reaches those who need it most.

Here’s how you can help right now:

  1. Share this post with your family, church groups, women’s groups, and village networks.
  2. Invite elderly relatives or neighbors to the Eye Clinic before 13th March 2026.
  3. Tag friends and colleagues using the hashtags below.
  4. Visit the Eye Clinic yourself—sometimes the greatest gift is knowing you’re not alone.

Every screened patient, every successful surgery, and every restored smile is a victory for our entire community.

At PCEA Chogoria Hospital, our commitment has always been to care with love—not just treating symptoms but restoring dignity and possibility. This Eye Screening and Free Cataract Surgery Program is living proof of that promise.

From the farmer who can once again tend his crops to the grandmother who can read her Bible without strain, the stories we’re about to witness will remind us of all: vision is more than seeing—it’s living fully.

We invite you to be part of this movement. Come, refer, share, and celebrate with us as sight returns to our community.

Together, we are making the impossible possible—one clear vision at a time.

A Week of Healing and Hope: Closing the 3rd Edition of Free Urology Surgery Week

Yesterday marked the successful conclusion of the 3rd Edition of our Free Urology Surgery Week — a remarkable outreach that brought healing, hope, and restored dignity to hundreds within our community. This impactful initiative was made possible through our continued partnership with Samaritan's Purse, whose unwavering commitment to serving humanity continues to transform lives. From the very first day, the hospital grounds were filled with patients seeking specialized urology care. Over the course of the week, more than 200 individuals received free consultations and screenings. For many, this was their first opportunity to access specialized medical attention. Even more life-changing was the fact that over 50 patients successfully underwent free surgical procedures — procedures that would have otherwise remained financially out of reach. Behind every successful surgery was a team of dedicated professionals who gave their all. Our surgical team worked tirelessly, long hours blending skill with compassion, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every patient entrusted to their care. Their commitment went beyond the operating theatre — it was service rooted in purpose. Equally instrumental was our Customer Care team, who ensured smooth coordination between patients and doctors. From registration to post-surgery follow-ups, they created an environment of reassurance and order, allowing patients to feel supported every step of the way. The planning committee also played a vital role in the success of this outreach. Through strategic mobilization and community engagement, they enabled us to reach members of the larger community who were in dire need of free urology services. Their efforts ensured that help reached those who needed it most. As the week came to a close, we gathered in fellowship over a shared meal — a moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration. On behalf of the entire PCEA Chogoria Hospital community, we expressed our heartfelt appreciation for the profound impact made during this outreach. Lives were not only healed physically but uplifted emotionally. Confidence was restored. Dignity was renewed. As our partners journeyed back to the United States of America, our prayers and gratitude went with them. The Chogoria community remains deeply thankful. The seeds of compassion planted this week will continue to bear fruit for years to come. Indeed, this was more than a medical camp — it was a testament to what partnership, dedication, and compassion can achieve together.

🚴 Fellowship with Chogoria Middle Boda-Boda Operators

Today, PCEA Chogoria Hospital had the honor of hosting the Chogoria Middle Boda-Boda Operators for a powerful fellowship in partnership with our Chaplaincy Department. This gathering was more than a spiritual encounter — it was a holistic conversation about men’s health and wellness. Together, we addressed important questions, shared valuable insights, and encouraged practices that empower both body and spirit. The fellowship strengthened our bond with the community, reminding us that healthcare is not only about treatment but also about connection, dialogue, and shared growth. As part of this visit, we distributed Bibles to support their continued spiritual journey, ensuring that the Word of God remains a guiding light in their daily lives. We sincerely appreciate the presence of every operator who joined us, and we extend special gratitude to the Chairman for his outstanding leadership and for accepting our invitation. His commitment to the boda-boda community is a testament to the strength and resilience of this vital group. Together, we build a healthier, stronger, and more united community. #PCH #CaringWithLove #Fellowship #BodaBoda

Free Urology Surgery Week Kicks Off: Transforming Lives Through Care

More than 400 individuals will benefit from free consultations and screenings, ensuring early detection of conditions and timely medical intervention.

What began as a bold vision three years ago has now matured into a trusted annual event. Each edition has built upon the last, strengthening partnerships, expanding services, and deepening community trust. The Free Urology Surgery Week is not just about numbers—it is about stories of resilience, families reunited with hope, and lives transformed through compassionate care.

This initiative would not be possible without the generous support of Samaritan’s Purse, whose commitment to humanitarian service has been instrumental in making specialized healthcare accessible. Their collaboration with local hospitals and medical teams ensures that patients receive not only treatment but also holistic care that addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

While surgeries are at the heart of this program, the consultations and screenings are equally vital. They empower individuals with knowledge about their health, encourage preventive practices, and reduce the burden of untreated conditions in our communities. By combining treatment with education, Free Urology Surgery Week is shaping a healthier future.

As we embark on this week of healing, we celebrate the courage of patients, the dedication of medical professionals, and the generosity of partners who make this possible. The 3rd Edition is a reminder that healthcare is not a privilege—it is a right, and when communities come together, barriers can be broken.
Together, we are not only treating conditions—we are restoring hope, dignity, and life itself.

ISO 15189:2022 Laboratory

At PCEA Chogoria Hospital, we believe that quality healthcare begins with trusted diagnostics. Today, we are thrilled to share a milestone that reflects this commitment: our laboratory has officially transitioned from ISO 15189:2012 to ISO 15189:2022 accreditation, granted by the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS).

This achievement places us among a select group of institutions nationwide recognized for meeting the highest international standards in medical laboratory quality and competence. For our patients, partners, and community, this is more than just a certificate—it is a promise of accuracy, reliability, and innovation in every test result we deliver.

ISO 15189 is the global benchmark for medical laboratories, ensuring that processes, equipment, and personnel meet rigorous standards. The 2022 update emphasizes not only technical excellence but also patient-centered care, risk management, and continuous improvement. By aligning with these standards, PCEA Chogoria Hospital demonstrates that our laboratory services are:

  • Accurate and Reliable: Every test result is backed by stringent quality controls.
  • Globally Recognized: Our accreditation assures patients and partners that we meet international best practices.
  • Future-Focused: The new ISO 15189:2022 framework encourages innovation, adaptability, and resilience in healthcare delivery.

For patients, this milestone translates into greater confidence in diagnostic outcomes—whether it’s routine blood work, specialized screenings, or complex investigations. For healthcare partners, it strengthens collaboration by ensuring that shared data and results are trustworthy and actionable.

Most importantly, it inspires us to keep pushing boundaries. Accreditation is not the finish line; it is a foundation for growth. We are already exploring advanced technologies, digital integration, and expanded services to make diagnostics faster, smarter, and more accessible.

This success is the result of teamwork, dedication, and a shared vision. From our laboratory staff who uphold meticulous standards, to our leadership that champions innovation, and to our patients who trust us with their health—this accreditation belongs to all of us.

As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to excellence. At PCEA Chogoria Hospital, every test matters because every patient matters.
